What Is AFCAT?

Options Through AFCAT

There is only short service commission for flying branch if you enter the field through AFCAT. The Important Details About The AFCAT Exam

The duration of AFCAT exam is 2 hours. It is a written exam. The question paper contains 100 questions and each question is of 3 marks. It means for every right answer, the candidate will score 3, and for every wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. There is no marking (neither positive nor negative) for the questions left unanswered. The questions of the exam belong to several different fields such as math, English, geography, politics, economics, science, history, reasoning and so on. After taking the exam, the candidate waits for the result. The result is declared with a cut-off list. Candidates who score high are called for AFSB interview. This interview is mainly based on the personality test, and the interviews run around 6 days. This personality test is divided into two stages which contain different tests like psychological test, intelligence test, group task and personal interview.

You can apply to two types of commissions under the AFCAT exam that include the short service commission and the permanent commission. If you want to dedicate a lifetime service to the Indian Air Force, then you can apply for the permanent commission exam. However, if you are planning to pursue the same for a shorter period, then short service commission will suit you best. The eligible age group to apply for the flying branch is 20-24, whereas the same for technical and ground duty branch is 20-26.

The syllabus is divided into four broad sections that include verbal ability in English, general awareness, military aptitude test, and reasoning. The question paper of this paper consists of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying three marks each and you get 2 hours to complete the same. For each wrong answer, you will lose 1 mark. What Is The Eligibility Criterion?

You have read that all three different branches demand different eligibility criteria, know more about them.

• Ground Duty Branch

To enter this field, graduates must be between 20 and 23 years old, post graduates between 20 and 25 years old, LLB between 20 and 26 years old and 20 and 27 years for ICWA/PhD/CA/M.Ed.

• Technical Branch

To enter this field, the age of the candidates should be between 18 and 28 during the course commencement.

• Flying Branch

To enter this field, the age to the candidates should be between 20 and 24 years during the course commencement. The candidate must be a graduate who has achieved at least 60% marks in aggregate including all exams; math and physics mandatory subjects. Or a recognized degree in  BE/ B tech with at least 60% marks in aggregate including all exams.

The flying branch contains jets, helicopters, transports and fighters. The technical branch takes care of the mechanical and electrical works.
